Princess Diana Car Crash
Using state-of-the-art technologies in the areas of forensic engineering, computer animation and photogrammetry, Knott Laboratory prepared an accident reconstruction and computer animation of the Princess Diana car accident in Paris.
Sophisticated image analysis software was used to create a three-dimensional computer model of the damaged Mercedes. Through this analysis, Knott Laboratory determined the vehicle’s speed at impact with the tunnel pillar was approximately 85 mph. Knott Laboratory’s findings were highlighted on several television stations, namely: NBC (“Dateline”), the Discovery Channel (“Unsolved History”), Fox News, and Denver News Channels 2 (WB2), 4 (CBS) and 9 (NBC).
Most recently, Fox News highlighted our efforts while reporting on the 10-year anniversary of the car accident: “Princess Diana’s Death: Unanswered Questions.“
