Prior to joining Knott Laboratory Mr. Bennett owned and operated a small construction firm and a small engineering firm. He has performed both architectural and engineering design for single family and multi-family homes. The design of wood framed structures in high wind areas are a specialty for Mr. Bennett as he teaches high wind design at the International Code Conference Training Institute which is held annually in Colorado.
While at Knott Laboratory Mr. Bennett has investigated and designed repairs for structural damage due to construction defects, fires, vehicle impacts, decay, tornados, expansive soils, soil settlement, snow, hail and ice storms. In the past two years at Knott Laboratory, Paul has inspected and reported on over 250 structures with damages due to construction defects and weather, among other causes. In addition to structural assessment and repair design, Mr. Bennett has a good understanding of building systems and is a Certified Building Inspection Engineer. Using his knowledge of building codes, building systems and his Mechanical Engineering education, Mr. Bennett has investigated plumbing and mechanical system failures, moisture intrusion and building compliance with life safety.
Mr. Bennett also has civil engineering and surveying experience in regards to designing roadways, site grading, drainage and utility infrastructure for both residential and commercial developments.
Currently, Mr. Bennett is working towards his master’s degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Structural Engineering, at University of Colorado at Denver.
Paul’s personal interests include trail running, mountain biking, telemark skiing and spending time with his wife and two adopted daughters.
